Baking Greek Memories: Autumn Aromas and Sweet Traditions in My Kitchen
December 25, 2023Hi, it’s Rachel and I’m sitting here in my kitchen, where the autumn air wraps around me like a comforting embrace as today the sweet smell of baking Greek koulouria cookies, tasty bougatsa cream-filled pastries, and fragrant tsoureki sweet bread fills the air – a nostalgic journey back to the simplicity of life in Greece. As the oven works its magic, I’m transported back to the village house and gardens and the aroma of olive groves.
My cosy kitchen has, today, become a place of warmth and tradition. The dough beneath my fingertips tells tales of shared meals and laughter echoing through the village. Join me on this culinary adventure as each batch of golden koulouria, creamy bougatsa, and aromatic tsoureki becomes a bite-sized portal to the delicious simplicity of Greek living.
Stay tuned, as my upcoming blog posts will feature these cherished recipes, and also the old traditional recipes inspired by my beautiful Yiayia Irene, and my dear friend Katerina’s age-old Cretan delicacies enabling you to recreate this magic in your own kitchen!
